Stop smoking for good this year

quitsmoking42.jpg

More than 40,000 smokers across the borough are being encouraged to give up smoking for good as part of Hackney’s New Year New You campaign.

This year’s campaign is even more significant as smokers are at an increased risk of serious illness from coronavirus.

Smoking harms the immune system and lungs, reducing the body’s ability to fight infections.

Smokefree Hackney is offering free support for people who live, study or work in the borough and want to give up smoking for good.

This support includes free medication (prescription charges may apply) and one-to-one support for up to 12 weeks.

Due to the limitations caused by the pandemic support services will be delivered over the phone and online.

Cllr Chris Kennedy, Cabinet Member for Health, Adult Social Care and Leisure
If we were ever in doubt, 2020 has been a stark reminder of how important it is to put our health first and not take it for granted; not just for ourselves but also for our loved ones. I was a smoker for 18 years so I really do understand how hard of a habit it is to break, but with the support from local services like Smokefree Hackney it can be done. I urge smokers in Hackney to choose a better quality of life and make this year the year to stop smoking for good.
