Nominate best biking project for an award

Do you know a great cycling project going on in Hackney? If so here’s your chance to nominate it for the London Cycling Awards 2009.

The awards, run by the London Cycling Campaign (LCC), recognise the best contributions to the growth of cycling in the capital.

Last year Hackney was rewarded for the STA Bikes’ Family Cycle Club, based at Sir Thomas Abney Primary School, as well as for Frampton Park Estate’s secure bike lockers.

Councillor Alan Laing, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, said: “There are lots of great cycling schemes and facilities in Hackney. I urge everyone to get involved in the awards to nominate and celebrate our excellent projects which contribute to the borough being ranked number one in the UK in terms of growth in cycling.”

Anyone can nominate a cycling project or facility for an award, self-nominations are welcome too. Categories for this year’s nominations are: Bests Cycle Facility; Best Community Cycling Initiative; Best Cycling Initiative for Young People or Children; Best Workplace Cycling Initiative.

Projects nominated must have been initiated or completed since April 2008. Deadline for nominations is 10am on Monday 19 October. Details on how to submit a nomination can be found at: www.lcc.org.uk/awards
