Mabley Green changing rooms now open

Four new changing rooms are now available for use at Mabley Green, E9 after a £700k cash injection to the area.

The new building also features an officials changing room, first aid room, disabled toilets (internal and external), an additional external toilet and a small office. They are Football Association, Football Foundation and Sport England regulation changing rooms.

As well as an artificial grass pitch, Hackney Council has reintroduced six new full-size grass football pitches on Mabley Green, ensuring the best possible leisure facilities on Hackney Marshes and Mabley Green. There is also an outdoor gym, which has been in place since last year, and is available to use for free.

During the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, local teams can play football on the pitches at Mabley Green while the East Marsh, temporarily becomes part of the Olympic site. The East Marsh will welcome football back in time for the (2013/14) season.

Hackney Council’s Cabinet Member for Health Social Care and Culture said: “The 2012 Games have provided an opportunity to give our residents world-class sports facilities alongside the new venues being built at the Olympic Park. Our multi-million pound improvement of Hackney Marshes, reintroduction of football pitches and new changing rooms at Mabley Green will ensure a sporting legacy for future generations.”

The pitches at Mabley Green can be booked for five-a-side, seven-a-side and eleven-a-side football. Call GLL, the social enterprise managing Hackney Council’s leisure facilities on 020 8986 7955 to book.

The new changing rooms are funded by Hackney Council, Sport England and DfL.
