I Love Hackney Mayor’s Civic Awards 2021: Nominate your community heroes

Civic_Awards_5824

Nominations are now open for the sixth annual Mayor’s Civic Awards, which will celebrate Hackney’s unsung heroes who have made a difference in their communities during the coronavirus crisis and over the years.

This year, the Awards will focus on celebrating the incredible Hackney spirit, which has seen residents and organisations rallying together to support vulnerable communities at this difficult time.

If you know an individual or organisation who’s made a positive and selfless contribution to the lives of Hackney residents, we want to hear their story. This could be an NHS hero, carer, teacher or another key worker, a volunteer, charity, business or anyone else who’s made a positive difference to Hackney residents during the pandemic or over the years.

Nominations for the Mayor’s Civic Awards close on Thursday 15 April. You can nominate your pandemic heroes online. If you require a paper application form with a freepost envelope, please contact emma.wynne@hackney.gov.uk or 020 8356 8444.

Awards will be given to three individuals and three organisations.

Mayor of Hackney, Philip Glanville
We would not have gotten through this past year if it wasn’t for the selfless work of our key workers, volunteers and other residents who’ve been quietly making a positive difference to the lives of Hackney people under incredibly challenging circumstances. These unsung heroes embody Hackney’s spirit, and we want to ensure that their work does not go unnoticed.

Whilst we had to postpone last year’s awards and we’re unable to come together physically for this year’s awards, it’s now more important than ever that we recognise the people who make Hackney such a diverse, welcoming and inclusive place to live in. Recognising this set of awards will cover two years and the need to celebrate the community response to coronavirus. We’re expanding the awards this year to ensure we can consider all the different ways that organisations and individuals have made a difference.

I would strongly encourage everyone to nominate either an organisation or individual who have those who have always given back to their communities or pandemic hero, and to help us celebrate the best of our borough.

Nominees for the Mayor’s Civic Awards can be of any age and from any background. However, if you are nominating someone who is under 18, please make sure you have a parent’s or guardian's permission to do so.

All nominations will be considered by a panel of judges drawn from across Hackney.

Winners will be announced at the Council’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), which will be held remotely on Wednesday 26 May.
