Help young residents kick-start a creative career through Discover Young Hackney

Young resident at Discover Young Hackney event

Applications for small grants of up to £6000 are now open to arts, creative and cultural organisations based in Hackney to be part of Discover Young Hackney, Hackney Council’s annual young persons arts and culture festival.

Discover Young Hackney aims to develop creativity in young people and break down the barriers that can stand in the way of a career in the arts and cultural sectors through a programme of free or low-cost participatory events and workshops throughout August.

Cultural organisations in Hackney have until midnight on Sunday 7 April to apply with proposals of creative activities and opportunities for local residents aged 15-26 (including those with special education needs and disabilities) to be delivered between 1 August and 1 September 2024.

Since 2007, Discover Young Hackney has encouraged thousands of young people to develop their creative skills and provided them with a career route into the cultural and creative industries including theatre, music, dance, photography, film, fine arts and fashion. I look forward to seeing this year’s programme continue the great legacy of offering excellent opportunities for the next generation of young creatives.

Cllr Chris Kennedy, Cabinet Member for Health, Adult Social Care, Leisure and Culture
