Hackney Mayor's Question Time: reserve your place!

Mayor Philip Glanville Town Hall 2

Residents are being invited to ask the Mayor of Hackney about the issues that matter to them, as well as offer their ideas and aspirations for the borough, at a public debate.

The first ever Hackney Mayor’s Question Time will take place in the Town Hall Council Chamber on Monday, October 2. It’s open to all borough residents and is an opportunity to discuss a wide range of subjects about life in Hackney and the work of the Council.

Mayor Philip Glanville will be joined on stage by Dave Hill - Guardian columnist, blogger and long-time Hackney resident - who will act as chairman, taking questions from the audience and posing some himself.

I want to hear from people from across Hackney’s diverse communities about the issues which matter most to them, whether it be housing, crime, schools and transport; jobs, redevelopment and the environment; or health, social care and community cohesion.

There’s been a lot of change in Hackney and we face many challenges as a borough and a Council, but I know there’s a huge amount of passion and creativity in our borough about how we can keep it a great place to live for everyone.

It’s so important that as a Mayor, a Council, as residents and businesses, we have open and honest discussions; that the Council can explain its vision and work, and people can share their thoughts and ideas, so we can work together on solutions. Hopefully this new annual event will be a great forum for that, alongside our other engagement events and consultations.

The event will be broadcast live and also available for people to view afterwards.

The following morning, the Mayor will host a Twitter Question Time where people can ask further questions and explore different areas not covered on the night.

The question time will run from 7pm to 9pm, and there will be refreshments afterwards. Doors will open at 6pm and there will be opportunities for a tour of the newly refurbished Town Hall.

The event is free and open to all residents, although numbers are limited. For more information and to register, visit hackneymayorqt.eventbrite.co.uk
