Hackney Community Tree Nursery open day this Saturday

Hackney Community Tree Nursery

Learn about the wonderful world of trees at the Hackney Community Tree Nursery and Edible Forest Garden Open Day, part of London’s National Park City Festival.

The event on the 27 July will give Hackney residents the opportunity to take part in tree maintenance, learn new skills and talk to experts about natural beekeeping, flora, fauna, fungi and much more.

The Tree Nursery is run by the Tree Musketeers, a group of local people who plant and care for trees in Hackney. They have planted hundreds of trees in Hackney’s parks, as well as supporting other local groups to plant and care for trees in estates and green spaces, planting and caring for community orchards and managing forest trees in Wick Community Woodland.

The open day is one of the many events that are happening across London for National Park City Festival from 20-28 July, which includes several free guided walks by Tree Musketeers. The Festival was set up by the Mayor of London for people to discover London’s amazing outdoors, with hundreds of free events being hosted across the city.

From a Wildlife Weekend in Woodberry Wetlands to Nature Play Days at Homerton Adventure Playground, there are lots of other fun events in Hackney happening throughout the week.

Cllr Feryal Demirci, Deputy Mayor
Trees contribute massively to our neighbourhoods as they improve air quality, give us shade and make our neighbourhoods more attractive places.  This event and all the other amazing activities in Hackney during National Park City Week are a great way for us to show off Hackney’s fantastic green spaces and get people involved in making Hackney greener.
Cllr Feryal Demirci, Deputy Mayor
Hackney Tree Nursery is a peaceful oasis where you can learn about trees and wildlife. You can also help grow trees for Hackney's parks. There will be lots going on at our summer open day so why not come down and discover what we do.
Russell Miller from Tree Musketeers

As part of the Mayor’s manifesto Hackney Council has committed to planting at least 1000 trees across the borough by 2022 to make Hackney greener and improve air quality.
