Hackney Business Network up and running

Local businesses from across Hackney came together this week (Wednesday 5 December) for the first Hackney Business Network (HBN) event.

The free event at the Hackney Empire offered Hackney businesses the chance to network in an informal atmosphere and hear the latest news for the business community.

The HBN grew out of the fantastic contribution that Hackney businesses made to the boroughs Olympic Games pop up business and showcase venue, Hackney House. It cemented some excellent working relationships developed in recent years. Seeing the commitment and enthusiasm and creativity that Hackney businesses brought to this successful project inspired the Council to keep the momentum going with a series of fun, business networking events.

Cllr Guy Nicholson, Hackney Council’s cabinet member for Regeneration said: “The Hackney Business Network has grown out of the successful Hackney House initiative were the Council and the Borough's business community worked together to showcase the diversity and creativity of our community across many different business sectors found in our local economy. The network provides the opportunity for us all to collaborate and expand our reputation as a community of innovators and entrepreneurs alongside our collective objectives to enable investment and create local jobs'

Richard Gibbs, Development Director from iCITY spoke about the recent announcement that BT Sport had decided to locate in Hackney’s post Olympic media centre site: “iCITY will offer space to a unique collection of small, medium and large companies.  The big companies looking to locate in East hackney are doing so because they want to close to small, local creative and tech businesses.  London is moving East.”

Hackney Council also provides a business based e-newsletter – keeping local businesses up to speed with all the latest news and developments in the borough. Businesses can sign up to this by emailing craig.morrsion@hackney.gov.uk

Hackney Business Network events will be held at a different venue every quarter. The next meeting is set for spring 2013 and the venue will be announced soon.
