Get set for flu and Covid vaccinations

This year’s autumn flu and Covid-19 vaccine programmes will start earlier than planned as a precautionary measure following the identification of a new Covid-19 variant.
The Richmond Road Medical Centre Practice received one of the first batches of vaccines.
Practice Nurse, Helen Carter, who accepted the delivery of the vaccines said: “Getting one of the first deliveries of the Covid vaccine for this season is an exciting way to kickstart the campaign, and we are proud to play our part in protecting our patients!”
Carers, pregnant women, health and social care staff, and people aged six months to 64 years in a clinical risk group or who are household contacts of people with weakened immune systems will all be among the groups to be offered a covid and flu jab this winter, as well as adults aged 65 and over.
From 18 September, the booking system will be open to all eligible people to book a Covid vaccination. Flu vaccinations will also start in September and co-administration will be encouraged where possible.
In line with advice from the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation, the eligibility criteria for adults are the same for both flu and COVID-19.
- those aged 65 years and over
- those aged 6 months to under 65 years in clinical risk groups (as defined by the Green Book, chapter 19 (Influenza))
- pregnant women
- those in long-stay residential care homes
- carers in receipt of carer’s allowance, or those who are the main carer of an elderly or disabled person

- close contacts of immunocompromised individuals.
The flu vaccine is also being offered to the following children:
