Don-e, the multi-talented instrumentalist and songwriter, has been confirmed as one of the main acts during Hackney One Carnival this year.

From the early to mid nineties, Don-e recorded two albums for the Fourth and Broadway label and in 1992, his first single, Love Makes The World Go Round , created a stir on UK dancefloors.

Now in its third year, Hackney One Carnival brings together hundreds of performers from carnival and community groups across the borough as part of the Cultural Olympiad, giving residents the opportunity to celebrate arts and culture alongside sports in the run up to the 2012 Games.

Councillor Guy Nicholson, Hackney Council Cabinet Member for Regeneration and the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, said: “Hackney One Carnival is growing every year, involving residents from communities across our borough. It’s great that we’ve got Don-e performing this year. His music will really lift the atmosphere on the day and highlight that the carnival is fast becoming one of London’s must-attend events.”

Hackney One Carnival takes place on Sunday 8 August. It kicks off at midday in Queensbridge Road, then on to Richmond Road, Mare Street, Amhurst Road, Pembury Road, Queensdown Road, then finishing at Hackney Downs Park where carnival and community groups will perform on stage. There will also be a host of other activities in the park including music, entertainment, food stalls, sports competitions and activities for children, all running from 2 to 6pm.

Hackney One Carnival is organised by Hackney Council’s 2012 Unit with local carnival groups. Building on Hackney’s long history as a host of carnival organisations, Hackney One Carnival encourages communities not traditionally involved in carnival to share the experience and showcase their heritage alongside traditional carnival groups.
