Countdown to Christmas with Town Hall Lights Switch-on

hackneycommunitychoir-2.jpg

Start the countdown to Christmas with the annual festive lights switch-on at the Hackney Town Hall on 28 November.

Residents are invited to celebrate the beginning of the festive season at the Town Hall, Hackney Central, from 5:30pm, joining the Hackney Community Choir with a sing-a-long of classic Christmas carols before the main event.

Making Hackney sparkle with a flick-of-the-switch will be the Hackney Speaker, Cllr Sade Etti, and characters from the Hackney Empire panto ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’, that is playing from 21 November to 3 January.

The Hackney Central Christmas tree will be joined by four others located in each of the borough’s town centres all decked out in different decorations. Residents who spot the trees are being encouraged to give their opinion on this season’s unique designs on Twitter or Facebook using #MakeHackneySparkle.

The switch-on is just one of many special events planned throughout December at Hackney’s markets and across its town centres, such a free film screening for young people on 22 December at the Council’s BL-NK venue in Curtain Road, Shoreditch.

The Speaker of Hackney, Cllr Sade Etti,
I want residents to wrap-up and head down to the Town Hall on 28 and join me to mark the start of the festive season in the borough. Before I switch on the lights with characters from ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’, the Hackney Community Choir will get the audience in the Christmas spirit with a selection of sing-a-long Christmas treats. The switch-on of the lights is great way of getting the season off to a festive start in a borough that has so many special events to choose from throughout December.
The Speaker of Hackney, Cllr Sade Etti,

You can find loads of Christmas listings, offers and news by following @lovehackney on twitter and by using #MakeHackneySparkle.

Look out for a special four page ‘Make Hackney Sparkle’ feature in the next issue of Hackney Today on 30 November that will include some of the ‘not to miss’ festive events in Hackney.
