Clissold Supermarket found guilty of underage sale

Erdogan Demir, the licensee and premises owner of Clissold Supermarket, 152 Green Lanes, N16 9DL was found guilty of selling alcohol to an underage teenager, at Thames Magistrates Court on Friday 18 April 2008.

Mr Demir, who did not appear in court was fined £500 and ordered to pay £300 costs. The offence related to the sale of alcohol to a 16 year old on 5 June 2007.

Fiona Fletcher-Smith, Hackney Council’s Corporate Director for Neighbourhoods and Regeneration said: “All traders are obliged to train their staff properly and advise them to ask for identification from purchasers that appear to be under 21.

“Our trading standards officers regularly inform licensees of their responsibilities to do this. Selling alcohol to young people under the age of 18 is very irresponsible and taken seriously by the courts.”

Traders who need advice about underage sales can call Hackney Trading Standards on 020 8356 4929.
