Celebrating National Apprenticeship Week in Hackney

Hackney Homes and construction contractors Mulalley, Mansell and Lakehouse celebrated National Apprenticeship Week (11  – 15  March) by pairing apprentices with senior managers within their organisations.

The week is designed to celebrate apprenticeships and the positive impact they have on individuals and businesses.

Over 25 local apprentices worked alongside managers, many of whom started their career in housing as apprentices themselves and had the opportunity to shadow directors and senior managers, gaining insight into another side of the workforce and the career paths available to them.

In reference to shadowing a senior manager for the day, Electrical Apprentice Antonn Christophe, said: “It has been a great experience getting to understand what other people do in the organisation, what they go through day to day and to see other aspects of the business.”

To mark the close of the week, apprentices were treated to a celebratory lunch where they heard from senior managers from Mulalley, Mansell, Mace and the Chair of Hackney Homes Board, Rupert Tyson MBE.

Rupert Tyson said: “This week has been a great opportunity for our young apprentices to get a taste of where they could be in years to come.”  He continued:  “Many senior managers within the Planned  Maintenance department started out as apprentices and it is nice for our young people coming up in the industry to see them and get inspired.”
