Audrey Street and Detmold Road could soon become next School Streets

Audrey Street in Haggerston and Detmold Road in Clapton could soon become Hackney’s latest School Streets in proposals announced today.

Under the proposals, the two streets - home to Sebright Primary School, the City of London Academy Shoreditch Park and Southwold Primary School - would become cycle and pedestrian only at school opening and closing times.

The Council is consulting with residents and parents at the sites, which would join five other School Streets in Hackney, and form part of its commitment to have introduced 17 of the streets by 2022.

Cllr Feryal Demirci, Deputy Mayor
"I’m delighted to announce the consultations for our next two School Streets, which form part of our wider ambitions to reclaim our neighbourhoods for people not cars, improve the borough’s air quality and get more people walking and cycling.

“School Streets tackle congestion and improve air quality at the school gates, making it easier and safer to walk and cycle to school."
Cllr Feryal Demirci, Deputy Mayor

Residents can have their say on the consultations, which close on Monday 4 February, at www.hackney.gov.uk/school-streets.
