Visit Hackney Town Hall for Open House London
From glittering mosques to interesting private homes, there are over 40 places to visit in Hackney for this year's Open House weekend taking place between 22-23 September.
Included this year is Hackney Town Hall, with guided tours of the building taking place on the hour between 11am-4pm on Sunday 23 September. The tours include a visit to the Mayor's office and the newly constructed Vaults display.
The display focuses on the building itself, its representation as the symbolic centre of civic pride, and its function as a home of local democracy.
Items that were found during the extensive 12-year restoration of the building are included in the Vaults. Many of the original features had not been touched throughout the Town Hall’s history, and 1930s era technology remained untouched for decades. For example, a central vacuum system, which is built into the walls.
