Traders wanted for Well Street Market re-launch

Local traders and aspiring entrepreneurs are being encouraged to apply to become market traders in the new Saturday market set to launch on 3 December.

The market is famously where, in 1919, before opening his first Tesco, 21-year-old barrow boy Jack Cohen plied his trade.

Hackney Council has been working closely with the Well Street Traders Association to reopen the historic market. After the application deadline 30 traders will be selected to initially run a market on the first Saturday of every month, with the intention to build up the markets profile and open on a weekly Saturday basis.

The deadline for applications is 25 September.

Well Street Traders Association recently succesfully raised over £80,000 through Spacehive to make Well Street more than just a market. They will be using the money to fund a live music stage and provide a range of exciting activities to nurture young entrepreneurial talent, offer free training to encourage local creatives and develop a music mentoring programme.
