Thousands line the streets for the Hackney One Carnival

Hackney One Carnival made a spectacularly colourful return to the boroughs streets on Sunday 13 September.

Residents came out in force to cheer on the wonderful procession of performers from 20 different carnival groups as they danced and entertained their way from Ridley Road along Dalston Lane and Richmond Road towards the Town Hall, before heading back to Ridley Road. The groups performed for the judges in front of the Town Hall to an excited crowd of around 5000 on-lookers

After the procession the festivities continued with a finale in Ridley Road with music and food until 8pm.

Once again the Hackney One Carnival was colourful and vibrant reflecting the creativity, passion and dedication of the carnival groups. I’d like to thank everyone involved for making it such a great success.

Hackney’s best young musicians performed to the crowd in Hackney Town Hall Square and Gillett Square was a transformed into a children’s play area.
