Supermarket fined for counterfeit goods

Mia Thido, owner of Viet Thai Supermarket in Hackney pleaded guilty to 11 Trade Mark offences on 7 February 2008, at Thames Magistrates Court. Miss Thido was fined £1000 and ordered to pay £1000 costs for selling counterfeit goods in her shop on Wells Street, E8.

Trading Standards officers seized a quantity of fake designer bags and wallets from Viet Thai Supermarket on 12 December 2006. The rip-offs included copies of Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Hugo Boss and Dolci Gabbana bags. The market value of the goods was approximately £5000.

Cllr Alan Laing, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods said: “All counterfeit goods are illegal, whether they’re handbags, DVDs or jewellery. Trading Standards will prosecute traders that sell counterfeit goods in Hackney. Local residents and visitors are entitled to buy with confidence and not be sold inferior and poor quality counterfeit goods.”
