Search for young stars to perform at Hackney One Carnival

An X-Factor style search is on to find two young stars to perform on stage at Hackney One Carnival later this summer.

Singers, dancers, actors and other talented young people aged from 13 to 19 are being encouraged by Hackney Council to show they’ve got what it takes by taking part in auditions on 10 July, where five performers will be short-listed.

Judging the auditions will be local up and coming young producers and performers, including Creative Directors Renell Shaw and Mekel Edwards and singer Miles Davey, a previous winner from the annual Discover Young Hackney talent contest I m In .

Videos of the short-listed performers will be posted on the Young Hackney website so that other young residents can vote for the act they want to see take to the stage in Hackney Downs Park during the carnival on 8 August.

Cllr Jonathan McShane, Hackney Council Cabinet Member for Community Services, said: “Discover Young Hackney is a great way for young residents to get involved in creative activities and meet new friends. The chance to perform on stage at the annual Hackney One Carnival is a fantastic opportunity for our talented young people to get involved with the creative legacy being built as a result of Hackney being a host borough for the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.”

To take part in the auditions, young people need to register in advance by sending a text to Kate on: 07976 342 341. The audition venue will be confirmed during registration.

Online voting will run from 12 to 23 July at: www.younghackney.org
