Pitch up in Ridley Road for just £5

Ridley Road Market

One of Hackney's busiest markets is offering new traders the chance to pitch up for as little as £5 a day.

Hackney Council has joined forces with Ridley Road Traders' Association to trial new stalls in the St Thomas Rise area to encourage an even greater mix of traders to the market. Existing traders are backing the scheme, and particularly keen to welcome those selling fresh flowers, DIY tools, stationery, and other goods not currently available on the market.

Harvey Bloom, a local Market Trader said: "The new fee structure will give new traders the choice of trading in areas of the market at a price of their choice. This will especially encourage individuals that are new to market trading"

Hackney Council and Ridley Road Traders' Association have been working together since 2010 on a range of projects to improve the look and feel of the market for traders and visitors alike, looking at how to tackle and reduce waste, increase recycling and to provide better parking.

Ridley Road market is one of our busiest and most diverse markets. It attracts thousands of shoppers and visitors every week. We hope this new initiative will attract an even wider range of traders to the area so that Ridley Road can continue to thrive.
Cllr Feryal Demirci, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, Hackney Council
