Paying to park just got easier

Motorists in Hackney now have a quicker and more convenient way to pay for their parking - mobile phone, text, web or smartphone app using their debit or credit card.

Paying to park using a mobile phone is an added convenience for people who, live work and visit Hackney as they no longer have to hunt for change to buy a ticket.

First time users need to dial the local rate number 0207 005 0055, as shown on pay and display machines follow a simple one-off registration process giving details of their vehicle, location and the payment card they wish to use. The next time they use the service, they will only need to provide the three digit security code and their current location, as the technology is able to identify the mobile phone being used.

The system, which is new to Hackney, offers easy to use secure payment methods, which come with the ability to receive email receipts, online parking statements and the choice to receive SMS text reminders before their parking session finishes. Once parked, motorists can extend their stay simply by contacting the service again, without going back to the car and without running the risk of receiving a parking ticket - penalty charge notice(PCN).

The phone number 0207 005 0055 is the same as the one used in and Islington, Tower Hamlets and Westminster which means motorists need only remember one number.

Hackney Council’s Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, Cllr Feryal Demirci, said: “We want to make paying for parking quicker and more convenient for motorists in Hackney. Motorists can now use their mobile phones to make a payment from anywhere in the borough, and also get a reminder text when their parking time is running out, so there is no reason for any motorist to get a parking ticket. Hackney Council is committed to giving motorists better customer service, and making paying to park easier is just one of the ways are meeting this commitment.”

The cashless payment system is provided by PayByPhone and applies borough wide in all Council on-street pay and display bays and car parks.
