Hackney residents are invited to nominate for the Mayor of Hackney Business Awards 2016, celebrating the achievements of the borough’s business community.

The Mayor’s Business Awards help to showcase the extraordinary work of the local business community, rewarding those who contribute most to the life and prosperity of the borough’s economy.

The winner of each award category will be selected by a panel of leading business figures and will chaired by Mayor of Hackney, Jules Pipe.

New for this year is a category chosen entirely by the public called ‘Best Place to Eat and Drink’, which is this year’s ‘People’s Choice Award’. This is different to the other categories in that all residents can nominate an eligible business. For all other categories, it is only businesses or employees of a business that can nominate.

The nominations for the ‘People’s Choice - Best Place to Eat and Drink’ award open on 16 November and close on 13 December. Voting for the ‘People’s Choice – Best Place to Eat and Drink’ winner will take place from 11 January to 29 January.

Also new for this year is the ‘Hackney Business Charter Award’, giving businesses the opportunity to nominate themselves if they have shown a commitment to employ local people, have integrated into their local community and have supported other Hackney businesses by sourcing local products and services.

Nominations for ‘Hackney Business Charter Award’ and all other categories opens on 11 January.

All entries will be judged by business experts, with the top three shortlisted entries in each category invited to attend the awards ceremony in February.

Jules Pipe, Mayor of Hackney
Hackney has a terrific reputation as a borough with a vibrant, growing economy and a huge variety of fantastic businesses, from large international organisations to small local firms that have been serving Hackney people for generations.

As a Council, we want to nurture our businesses to be as successful as they can be, not only to help grow our local economy but also provide vital employment opportunities for Hackney residents wanting to forge careers in Hackney and beyond.

For this year’s awards, I want as many local people to nominate their best places to eat and drink and for our business community to put themselves forward to showcase their extraordinary achievements, while also sharing their stories to fellow businesses and all who live in Hackney.
Jules Pipe, Mayor of Hackney

The award categories are:

The People’s Choice Award - Best Place to Eat and Drink - the award winner will be chosen by people in Hackney voting for their favourite place to eat and drink.

Best Hackney Business - for the business that is head and shoulders above the rest.

Best Hackney Entrepreneur - for the person who best represents the spirit of entrepreneurship in Hackney by creating an innovative new product or service and who inspires others.

Best Creative Business - for the business that has demonstrated high levels of innovation and creativity while being a pioneer in their field.

Hackney Business Charter Award for Best Overall Contribution to the Borough - a business that has consistently shown a commitment of employing locally, supports and invests in the community and enhances the local environment.
