Mr Nosey joins Hackney libraries for World Book Day

Hackney Council is getting ready to celebrate World Book Day (Thursday 3 March) as part of its continued drive to encourage more people to take advantage of what’s on offer at their local library.

Mr Nosey will be joining the celebrations and visting Hackney libraries between Tuesday 1 and Thursday 3 March. Other events include an exploration of urban teen novels for British teens; badge making fun; storytelling and puppet theatre show and dress up as your favourite character day.

Hackney Council s Cabinet Member for Community Services, Councillor Jonathan McShane said: “We want more people to see the value of their library and realise what a fantastic resource they are for the local community. You can borrow the latest best seller or use the internet - and all for free. They are also a great place to find out information about your local area. Libraries really are worth a second look. Come and celebrate World Book Day, join your local library and start taking advantage of what s on offer."

Hackney Council’s eight libraries are a fantastic community resource – with over a quarter of a million books and 57,000 DVDs and CDs just waiting to be borrowed, and all for FREE!

Over 70,000 people are members of Hackney Libraries. They have been changing over the last few years in bid to give people more of what they want. They are open longer hours - with three libraries open Sundays. Clapton library has recently been refurbished offering customers a modern comfortable environment within a superb listed building, and a new flagship library at Dalston is due to open later this year.

Hackney libraries have regular book promotions and events. There are over 150 PCs with FREE internet access. Young people can use the homework resources and all libraries have quiet study space and a wide range of study materials.

The Council also wants to know what would encourage more people into Hackney libraries and how we could improve the services that we provide. You can help by completing an online survey at www.hackney.gov.uk/libraries
