London s biggest regeneration projects come together

LEADING London housing and regeneration experts including Sir Simon Milton, the Deputy Mayor, will be speaking at the capital s top development forum, the Future of London Regeneration Conference, later this year.

The forum is the only annual event bringing together 21 of London’s biggest regeneration schemes and returns for its third year at the Business Design Centre, Islington, on Thursday 8 October, 2009.

Sir Simon Milton has been confirmed as a speaker at the event along with David Lunts, London Director of the Homes and Communities Agency; Fiona Fletcher-Smith, the GLA’s new Director of Development and Environment; Dr Tim Williams, Government adviser and Navigant Consulting chief; and Roger Madelin, Joint Chief Executive of the Argent Group, developers of the Kings Cross Regeneration scheme.

The Mayor of London Boris Johnson has been invited to address the conference. A host of other industry heavyweights have also been invited and will be announced shortly.

This year’s event is supported by the Homes and Communities Agency, the London Development Agency and the Environment Agency. The conference will look at new ideas and solutions during the current economic climate and will share best practice while looking to formulate new national and regional policy to further scheme delivery.

More than 600 paying delegates from a range of professions and organisations including developers, local authorities, urban designers, architects, consultancies, Government agencies, legal partnerships and media will be invited to attend the event, structured around four areas: the National Context; the Economic Situation; Fresh Thinking; and the London Context.

The organiser of the event, the Future of London Major Projects Delivery Group, is a bi-monthly forum for large-scale regeneration projects and project managers to meet, share best practice, and scheme knowledge, working with all tiers of Government to enhance scheme delivery and review policy objectives.

The 2nd annual Future of London conference was held on 21 October, 2008, at Church Hall, Westminster, with over 400 paying delegates attending and 30 organisations exhibiting at or sponsoring the event. Speakers included Mayor of London, Boris Johnson; CLG Minister Iain Wright MP; Professor Sir Peter Hall; and Sir Richard MacCormac.

The Future of London website is also an innovative learning resource of scheme data from all of the major projects in the capital, and is currently being expanded to include a toolkit to assist local authorities considering large-scale schemes. This is set to become one of the first and major points of reference for the industry, creating from the vast body of learning built up from these schemes an online reservoir of knowledge not previously available.
