As part of its Parks for Life summer events programme, Hackney Council is inviting children, young people and families to “have a go” at a range of free, fun outdoor activities, games and sports outside at Shoreditch Park and inside the Britannia Leisure Centre on Saturday 11 June from 11am until 5pm.
Get adventurous by trying out Kids’ Capoeria or rock climbing, trampolining or mastering the art of fencing.

Give England a run for their money by taking part in mini-football games. Find your centre of balance and practice some new moves by trying out Judo or Tai Chi. Make the heart beat faster with beach volley ball, boot camp, circuit training, ping pong or wheelchair basket ball.

Dozens of local leisure, sports and activities groups will be offering free taster sessions, demonstrations, freebies and mini-matches to encourage kids and adults to have a go and learn a new skill. And experienced local coaches will be on hand to encourage absolute beginners and add grease to the elbows of those who may have gone a bit rusty!

When you fancy a breather, we’ve got plenty of smoothies and sorbet, picnic space and wellbeing spaces. NHS City and Hackney will also offer everyone free health MOTs, massage and information and advice on exercise and healthy eating.

Cllr Jonathan Mcshane, Member of cabinet for community services said: “It’s all for fun and it’s all for free. “Have a go” gives families a chance to try out all kinds of healthy activities that are already up and running in Hackney. It’s all about enjoying yourself in the park and trying something new in a safe and family-friendly environment.”

There will be opportunities for visitors to sign up for various sports and health classes, activities and clubs in the local area.
This event is run by Hackney Council in association with Greenwich Leisure Limited.
