Hoxton Market to host designer pop-up day

A special 'Love Hackney, Shop Local' fashion event is to be held on Hoxton Market this Saturday 20 October to showcase the creative talent in the surrounding area as well as celebrating the vibrancy of the market.

Hackney Council has teamed up with its local fashion partners -  FashionEnter, MaterialPR, DISC, London College of Fashion and Centre for Fashion Enterprise - to bring together a wealth of local designers, fashion students and retailers to run their own one-off stalls at the event.

The market's strong links with the creative industry has given it a new lease of life in recent years and is now home to many up-and-coming designers and artists selling clothes, shoes, handbags, jewellery and antiques.

As well as being able to purchase exclusive items from the borough's up and coming designers, visitors who spend £10 with participating markets stalls will be rewarded with a free tote bag created by Hackney-based fashion designers Atalanta Weller or Simone Rocha. This offer will also be running on Ridley Road Market on Friday 19 October too.

This event forms part of the Council's Love Hackney, Shop Local campaign, which asks residents and visitors to support its markets and think twice about using plastic bags in order to support a sustainable local economy and help the borough on its way to becoming one of the greenest in London.
