Have your say on Hackney’s second transport Local Implementation Plan

Public consultation: 7 February to 6 May 2011.

All London boroughs are required to prepare a Local Implementation Plan outlining their proposals to implement the London Mayor’s Transport Strategy (MTS) locally.

Following the publication of the new MTS in May 2010, Hackney Council has prepared a second Local Implementation Plan that details how its traffic and transportation programmes will contribute to meet the London wide transport targets in the long term, and includes a proposed programme of investment from 2011 until 2014.

Local residents, businesses, community groups and partners are invited to have their say on the draft Local Implementation Plan 2 (LIP 2) during the Council’s public consultation that looks at proposals for implementing the MTS, and is also an indication of what the Council would like to achieve over the next five years in relation to transport.

The draft LIP 2 includes projects like improvements to town centres and public spaces, new cycling facilities, safer roads and measures to smooth traffic flow in Hackney.

Councillor Feryal Demirci, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods, said: “We want to ensure that the second Local Implementation Plan helps deliver an efficient, sustainable transport system that will connect and integrate Hackney with the rest of London and beyond. This will enable easy access to economic, social and cultural opportunities both locally and London wide. It is essential that we hear from local people, businesses, community groups and other stakeholders to ensure they are involved in its preparation.”

The Council wants feedback on the proposed targets and challenges in the draft LIP 2, but also welcome opinions on other aspects of the document.

Comments received will be considered as part of the production of the final LIP 2, which will be produced by summer 2011. The document will then be submitted to the Mayor of London for approval.

The consultation is open to the public and will close on Friday 06 May 2011.
