Hackney supports Fairtrade fortnight

Teas up for Hackney Mayor Jules Pipe and Councillor Ian Rathbone as they mark the start of Fairtrade Fortnight (Feb 25 to 9 March).

Events taking place in Hackney over the fortnight include: an exhibition in Hackney Central Library; the chance to hear from an international Fairtrade producer and a special screening of award-winning Fairtrade film Black Gold.

The Council is also doing its bit - Fairtrade products are being more widely used throughout the organisation and the Council is applying for Fairtrade Status.

Councillor Nargis Khan, Cabinet Member for Community Services, said: “I hope Hackney’s small but growing network of retailers will be the start of a bigger movement locally to get a better deal for farmers and workers in poorer countries.”
