Hackney shopkeeper prosecuted for selling vodka to child
Mr Gokhan Aktas, Director and Premises Licence Holder of Akdeniz Limited t/a Akdeniz Food & Wine Store 245 Wells Street. London E9, pleaded guilty on 28 July 2010 at Thames Magistrates Court to allowing the sale of alcohol to a person under 18-years-old.
On 26 September 2009 officers from Hackney Trading Standards and Police carried out test purchases in the area with support from 15-year-old Police cadets.
The fifteen-year-olds managed to purchase a bottle of Smirnoff Vodka Blue from Akdeniz Food Store at 245, Wells St on the 26 September 2009.
Cllr Feryal Demirci, Cabinet member for Neighbourhoods said: “Selling alcohol to children is something we take very seriously. It’s dangerous, illegal and irresponsible and we cannot allow it to happen in Hackney.”
Mr Gokhan Aktas was given a two-year unconditional discharge and ordered to pay legal costs of £415.00.
