Hackney s fight on fakes

Hackney Trading Standards is reaching out to its local residents next week to raise awareness around the issue of counterfeit goods such as concert tickets and fake branded sports clothes.

Residents are invited to the Hackney Council Service Centre from 10am - 2pm on Wednesday 23 November for the Good sports don t fake it event, the theme of this year s National Consumer Week (21-25 November). There will be goods on display which have been seized by the Trading Standards team as well as people on hand to provide advice and a questionnaire to test residents knowledge of their consumer rights. Those who participate in the quiz will automatically be entered into a prize draw to win gift vouchers.

Cllr Feryal Demirci, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods said: "Buying fake goods can leave you out of pocket, and there is also a strong link between fakes, crime and drugs. We want our residents to be extra vigilant when purchasing items to ensure they don t become a victim of fraud."

Trading standards are urging people to help stamp out fakes: if you are not sure, get advice. If you think it s dodgy, report it . For further information, contact Hackney Trading Standards on 020 8356 4929
