Hackney residents come together for over 55's Winter Warmer event

Hackney Homes put on a spectacular Winter Warmer event for their older residents at on 31 January 2014. The event, held in Hackney Town Hall, attracted hundreds of residents all eager to pick up useful tips on keeping safe, healthy and reducing energy bills.

Hackney Diabetes Centre, Big Energy network, Volunteer Centre Hackney, the London Fire Brigade and Age UK (East London), were among some of the organisations offering free advice for residents.

Many residents were pleased to speak directly to staff from our gas safety and repairs teams and were able to approach Hackney Mayor, Jules Pipe about their concerns and suggestions for the their local community.

Resident, Valarie Baysan, said: "This is a really nice event. I've enjoyed getting all the advice and meeting people and socialising. Everyone has been really friendly and helpful."

.

"The event has grown in popularity over the years, and continues to provide older residents with the information and support they need during these winter months.”
Cllr Philip Glanville, Cabinet Member for Hackney Homes and Regeneration Estates, Hackney Council

Residents left well equipped with a few winter goodies and some signed up to free community based exercise classes and digital training courses
