Hackney in Harmony for music concert

Woven Gold photo

Classical, world music, and rock are just some of the sounds that will be heard at the Speaker of Hackney’s free concert on 6 May.

The Hackney in Harmony concert will take place at St John of Jerusalem Church, Lauriston Road in E9. Kicking off at 7.00 (doors open at 6.30pm), there will be music from a Turkish Saz ensemble, the Woven Gold refugee choir, local soprano Emma Dogliani as well as local choirs and talented young musicians. The Speaker of Hackney, Cllr Rosemary Sales, with other councillors, will be also joining the Festival Chorus, to sing music by Verdi, Beethoven and Puccini.

Making music brings people together. With hate crime and intolerance on the rise across the country, music is a fantastic way of connecting communities and building harmony.

As well as celebrating Hackney’s diverse communities and talents, the event will help raise funds for the Speaker’s charities, Hackney Migrant Centre and North London Action for the Homeless

Entry is free and there will be a retiring collection for the charities as well as a bar selling beer, wine and soft drinks.

Tickets can be reserved by emailing speaker@hackney.gov.uk –the ticket also allows entry to a prize draw. Visit www.facebook.com/hackneyspeaker for more information.
