Hackney Homes: Youth Involvement Day
More than 200 young people attended the Hackney Homes’ Youth Involvement Day at Urswick School, Hackney, making it a growing success.
This year’s event highlighted more opportunities available for young people in training, education, volunteering, employment and leisure.
Career development advice was provided by Hackney Ways into Work and Always INSYNC whilst Hackney Community College was there to discuss the variety of training and educational programmes they offer. Brook Clinic and Off Centre were also present providing sexual health advice and bullying awareness information.
Activities included t-shirt designing, BMX time trials, massages, martial arts, penalty shootout, photography, manicures and Cycle Club Hackney one minute cycle test. East London Radio recorded live blogs of young people’s views on a variety of topics whilst Whitty Gordon Production encouraged attendees to share their favourite memories of the borough on film.
Commenting on his time at the event, 15 year old Dejon Vanderpool said: "It's been a fun day; there is so much to do. I hope you do more of these events. I would definitely recommend them to my friends."
Nemesis Dance Groups entertained the crowd with their street dance performances which encouraged more young people to join. A series of prize draws throughout the day, with a selection of great electronic gadgets up for grabs, captured the attention of young and old alike.
