Hackney Homes supports community events

Hackney Homes is encouraging residents of all ages to get together and have fun with neighbours by offering £500 to registered Tenants and Residents Associations interested in organising Big Lunch, Neighbours Day or National Family Week events.

Throughout the summer these events always prove a big hit, with many choosing to catch up with those who live nearby to share entertainment, conversation and a bite to eat.

The aim of the annual Big Lunch is to get as many people as possible to have lunch with their neighbours whilst getting to know the local community. This year, hundreds of Big Lunch events will take place across the UK on 1 June 2014.

Neighbours day will be held on 23 May 2014. Initially launching in Paris, it has now become an international success celebrated around the world to encourage cohesion and friendship amongst neighbours.

National family week celebrates the benefits of family life and the affect that good family relationships have on the community and society as a whole and usually takes place last week in May each year.

We have a diverse range of residents living in the borough and these events are a great way for us to all come together to share experiences and meet our neighbours, building new relationships and enhancing community spirit.
Cllr Philip Glanville, Cabinet Member for Hackney Homes and Regeneration Estates, Hackney Council
