Hackney Council installs two more car club bays in borough
Accessing cheaper and greener alternatives to car ownership has just become easier in Hackney following the installation of two more car club bays
There are now more than 160 car club vehicles in the borough operated by ZipCar and City Car Club, following the recent additions of bays in Queens Drive, near Green Lanes, and Rutland Road, close to Victoria Park.
Joining a car club allows residents to experience the convenience of using a car without the hassle or costs of repairs, servicing or parking.
Around 90 per cent of residents live within three minutes' walk of a car club bay.
Members can book vehicles 24/7 by phone or online, and they can be ordered for as little as half an hour, for a whole weekend, or longer.
Car clubs are perfect if you don’t use a car regularly. If you drive less than 8,000 miles a year, using a car club could save you up to £3,500 per year on tax, insurance, parking permits, servicing and repairs. The Council is always looking at ways to promote greener travel. Each car club vehicle takes up to 24 private vehicles off the road, reducing journeys by car and helping the environment. It also reduces the parking pressure on our streets. Car clubs are also beneficial for businesses reducing costs for their fleets and taxis.

To join one, you will need a debit or credit card and proof of address.
City Cars are available to hire from £4.95 per hour or £1.66 per hour if booked for 24 hours.
Annual membership is just £60 (£30 for family or partners), and discounts are available for business users.
ZipCar annual membership costs £59.50 and rates start at £5 per hour.
