Ladies, fancy taking up a sport? Attend free women-only taster sessions

Women-only sports and exercise taster sessions

Ladies, round up your mums, aunties, sisters and friends and take part in Hackney Council’s free women-only fitness taster sessions later this month.

Football, netball, badminton and group exercise classes are just some of a host of activities available at the fun and fitness afternoon in Clissold Leisure Centre, Stoke Newington, on Tuesday, 23 September.

It forms part of the For The Girls programme, run by GLL and Hackney Council and funded by Sport England, aimed at motivating women and girls aged 14 and above into or back into sport as part of a healthy, active lifestyle.

The action packed session, between 3.30pm and 8pm, will see many more sports on show, as well as a chance to design your own t-shirt.

Cllr Jonathan McShane, Cabinet Member for Health, Social Care and Culture, Hackney Council
Whether you’ve got out of the habit of exercising or you just want to try something totally new, then come along to our free sessions. You can try your hand at a game of netball, practice your striking and dribbling with a football taster, or work up a sweat in our group exercise classes. There's bound to be something that's right for you.
Cllr Jonathan McShane, Cabinet Member for Health, Social Care and Culture, Hackney Council

Retired Olympian and For The Girls Ambassador, Jade Johnson, said: “The events are really fun and inspirational. It is so important for women and girls to take part in exercise. It helps you get fit but also socialise and improve your confidence.”

There will also be refreshments and crèche facilities on a first come, first served basis.

To book your place, email: forthegirls@gll.org or call 079 1468 5261.
