Hackney Bloco event on Hackney Downs a success

Hackney Bloco had its first outing in Hackney this week (Wednesday 1 August), at a free session on Hackney Downs. People of all ages turned out to learn this exciting fusion of Samba drumming and modern music

The free sessions continue every Wednesday until 5 September, from 5-8pm. They are open to all ages and abilities - everyone is encouraged to come along and give it a try!

Hackney Council’s Parks for Life, 2012 programme is a series of free weekly events in six parks – Clissold, Hackney Downs, London Fields, Millfields, Shoreditch, and Springfield. Activities which usually run in the morning or afternoon include Tai Chi; Roller Skating, Ballet, Yoga Bugs, Rugby Tots – an introduction to rugby for the under 6’s.

These dance music fusion events, part of Hackney Council’s Parks for Life, 2012 are being run by Rising Tide.

Gabin Sinclair from Rising Tide said: “We are really excited about bringing the Bloco to Hackney and launching it as part of the Parks for Life. It’s aimed at all ages and if more people get involved we can create a very diverse Bloco band.”

Pick up a copy of the programme from Council buildings. For new and additional sessions visit www.hackney.gov.uk/parksforlife or follow us at www.facebook.com/hackneyarts or www.twitter.com/hackneyartsleis
