General Election 2015 - Postal votes

Hackney Town Hall

Hackney has received a very large number of postal vote applications, with nearly 28,000 requests. Over 25,000 of these were posted out on 22 April, however a small number have been delayed. This is due to a number of reasons caused by the new Individual Electoral Registration system, which means we did not receive some applications until a later date as details were cross checked by the Department for Work and Pensions, via the government’s new online registration service.

We have received verification of the final 270 applications from the government’s digital service, so this afternoon we will be couriering the remaining forms to people’s homes to ensure they receive them by this evening. In addition, residents are able to collect their ballot from Hackney Town Hall until 7pm tonight and we will be open from 9am-12pm on Saturday to assist.

Ensuring everyone in Hackney is able to vote is our absolute priority. We apologise for the delay, and thank residents for their patience and understanding. We will be feeding back our concerns about the IER approval process to the government following the election.

Anyone who wishes to check the status of their postal vote can contact the elections team on 020 8356 3000.
