Games days returning to Gillett Square, Dalston, Hackney

GAMES days are returning to Gillett Square, offering residents an opportunity to sample board games from around the world.

Every Saturday afternoon throughout June, you can play chess on a giant board, take part in chess master classes, enjoy ping-pong, and try a range of new and traditional games, from Oware, the national game of Ghana, to magnetic football. Experts from Universal Board Games will be on hand to help out.

Cllr Jonathan McShane, Cabinet Member for Community Services, said: “Gillett Square is a great hub for cultural activity, and the Total Play Days in June are an ideal opportunity to come along and find out first-hand about some of the interesting events taking place at this venue.”

The Total Play days will feature innovative Snug play equipment that children can move around and join together to create their own exciting playscapes. This has been bought by Hackney Council using London Development Agency funding.

The annual afternoon sessions, co-organised by Hackney Co-operative Developments and Universal Board Games follow a successful play-themed event held in October last year in Gillett Square, enjoyed by over 600 people when local children first tried out the Snug play equipment and gave it an enthusiastic thumbs up.

Total Play Days take place on 5, 12, 19 and 26 June, from 1 to 4pm at Gillett Square, N16. For info call: 020 8806 4654; or e-mail: info@universalboardgames.co.uk
