Free swim for residents to celebrate new floodlights switch-on at London Fields Lido

Residents can enjoy a free swim at London Fields Lido to celebrate the official switch-on of the popular pool’s new floodlights.

The heated lido will now be open to the public between 6.30am and 9pm all year round from 1 December, following the installation of eight poolside lights.

The lighting has come on the back of calls from lido lovers to extend the opening hours so swimmers can enjoy it more flexibly in the darker months.

Residents are able to take a free swim at the Olympic-sized pool from 4.30pm on 10 December after the lights are officially unveiled during a special poolside ceremony. They simply need to turn up on the day.

In addition to the floodlights at the pool, which is operated by GLL, lighting has been installed to the external changing cubicles and new light fittings will illuminate the entrance and cycle rack area. The underwater pool lights will also be replaced with new LED fittings. The lighting has been carefully selected in order to minimise potential light pollution for residents and wildlife.

The Council is determined to give residents as many opportunities as possible to get fit and healthy.London Fields Lido is already one of the country’s best used pools but we know many people were frustrated they couldn’t swim before or after work in winter.

The new lighting solves that problem and also provides extra pool time for the local swimming club, lessons and classes.
