Free public event celebrates architectural talent in Hackney

Hackney is toshowcase the best of the borough's architects and architecture in a free eventat Hackney House on Shoreditch High Street on 28 and 29 July. 
 
Hackney'sArchitecture Showcase Weekend will play host to some of London's leadingarchitects who have designed structures or spaces in the borough as well asHackney-based architectural firms who are pioneering building design in the UKand across the globe. Impressive models ofsome of these schemes will be on display at the eventincluding:  MacCreanor Lavington'sAccordia (2008 RIBA Stirling Prize Winner), Tim Ronalds' Hackney Empire (2004 Royal Fine ArtCommission Building of the Year Award), RIBA winner HenleyHalebrown Rorrison's projects in Hackney, Theis and Khan's Bateman's Row (2010 RIBAStirling Award, Shortlisted), and Stephen Marshall Architects' proclaimed NileStreet Residential development (The best new development in the affordablesector at the New Homes Awards 2006).
 
The weekendwill also be the last chance to nominate a building or space in the borough forentry into this year's Hackney Design Awards, which celebratesgreat design and architecture in Hackney.  Details of previous winners will feature at theevent and anyone can make a nomination, including residents whoinhabit newly developed homes; employees who enjoy their workplace; pupils wholove their schools or people who are simply inspired by the look of a buildingor place in Hackney.
 
Hackneycovers just seven square miles and is the third most dense borough in London,but despite its limited space it continues to deliver innovative building designas well as housing some of the country's most exciting architects.   Comealong and speak to the people involved inbuilding the borough of Hackney and see thefuture vision for the area.   The event is free and doors are open from 11am-4pm on Saturday 28 Julyand from 11am-3pm on Sunday 29 July.  For more information and to register your interest,  visit: http://www.hackneyhouse.org/architecture-showcase/
 
Entries to theHackney Design Awards 2012 will be shortlisted and judged by an independentpanel made up of respected figures in the built environment field. Hackney Design Awards 2012  - what can be nominated?

The nomination must:

- be inthe borough of Hackney
- have been completed no earlier than 1 August 2010and be fully functioning by the closing date for nominations, Monday 30 July2012 .

Entries for the following types of public or private developmentare encouraged:
- new buildings – residential, commercial, community,educational or industrial
- alterations to existing buildings – includingextension, refurbishment, conversion or restoration
- parks, gardens,pedestrian or play / recreational areas that include structural design elements.
