Where: London Fields
When: Saturday 22 May, 12pm-6pm

A melting pot of celebrity chefs, a bike that can whip up a smoothie, urban gardeners, home-grown bands and little tots playing on hollow logs …it can only be summer in Hackney.

Hackney Council launches “Parks for Life” its free summer programme of healthy, happy events in the borough’s award winning green spaces.*

The all-day mini festival, taking place at London Fields on Saturday 22 May from 12-6pm, will give visitors their first taste of summer events to come in Hackney’s Parks from May-September.

London Fields will be turned into three festival style “villages” where visitors can take part in taster sessions, enjoy lively demonstrations or simply soak up atmosphere to find out what Hackney’s “Parks for Life” has to offer.

All events are free and there’s something for everyone at a Hackney park, whatever your age, interests and fitness levels.

• The "Home Grown Kitchen" is the place to come for a world of great taste. Chef, Andrea Oliver, who appears on BBC 2’s Dish it Up** with best friend Nenah Cherry, will be hosting feel-good healthy cookery demonstrations and make-it-yourself workshops along with Keryann Dunlop, one of Jamie Oliver’s first graduates from the "Fifteen" programme.

• Run by Hackney Council together with City and Hackney Teaching PCT, visitors to "The Health Village" can find out about local health services, get a free health or dental check; get expert tips on fitness and diet or find a "bump buddy”. There’s also a chance to chill with a free massage in the well-being wagon, learn Tai Chi or try out a new craft.

• "The Field of Activity", is the wildly beating heart of this mini festival. Run by SportsInspired, the field features drop in sports tournaments run by local clubs, a street dance competition and a fast and furious children’s cook-off. There’s also a chance for everyone to sign up to local sports clubs and a varied programme of fitness, dance, and sports classes happening all over Hackney this summer.

Discover a workout for mind, body and soul every week in Hackney parks.

Regular summer activities include Wu style Tai Chi sessions on Sundays in Well Street Common. Heart pumping bootcamps every Saturday in Hackney Downs and Millfields Parks. And wild Capoeira for kids on Saturdays in Haggerston Park. To take it all at a calmer pace, join our Tuesday afternoon walks in Clissold Park or one of the AgeWell walks for over-50s on Mondays in London Fields.

The Parks for Life initiative is run in association with NHS City and Hackney.
