Customers get free permits to park in Olympic parking zone

To support businesses while LOCOG’s Olympic parking zone is in place, Hackney Council has identified 41 streets and installed temporary business visitors’ parking bays.

All businesses in the zone area have been provided with visitors’ vouchers giving customers permission to park for free near local businesses. More vouchers are available and there is no limit to the number businesses can request and give out to their customers.

Each free voucher is a scratch card that is valid for three hours maximum stay with no return within two hours. It must be displayed in the vehicle while parked in the designated business visitors’ parking bays. All the vouchers are valid until 9 September 2012.

The bays are operational at the same times as the temporary parking controls - 21 June or 21 July to 9 September 2012, between 8am to 9pm, Monday to Sunday. They are shared by all visitors to the different businesses in the area.

Cllr Feryal Demirci Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods said: “I’d like to remind shoppers that local shops and businesses have free visitors’ parking vouchers that their customers can use. It’s important that we continue to support local businesses over the summer, which is why the Council ensured free parking vouchers and temporary bays were available during Games time.”

Parking restrictions have been implemented in two phases, some have been in place since 21 June and other areas will start on 20 July. All Olympic parking restrictions will end on 9 September 2012. For more information and to see a virtual map go to: www.hackney.gov.uk/Parking-during-the-Games.htm
