Compost Open Day

London Waste Limited is holding an Open Day on Thursday, 8 May, to mark International Compost Awareness Week (4-12 May).

Hackney residents are invited to visit the EcoPark in Edmonton and see what happens to their recycling.

All of the borough’s food waste collected through the Blue Bin scheme is taken to the EcoPark, where it undergoes an in-vessel composting process. The compost produced from the recycling process is used on Hackney’s parks and green spaces.

Fiona Fletcher-Smith, Corporate Director for Neighbourhoods and Regeneration, said: “Hackney Council is pleased to promote events that support our efforts to reduce waste in the borough. This is a unique opportunity for residents to see what happens to their recycling, and watch their tea bags and potato peelings turn from leftovers into rich compost.”

The Open Day will be in two sessions, at 10am and 2pm. To book one of these please send an email to ander.zabala@hackney.gov.uk – include your name, address and contact number, along with the time of your preferred visit.
