Come to Hackney’s markets for everything you need this Christmas

Hackney has some of the most vibrant markets in London where you can pick up anything from fresh fruit and vegetables from all over the world to arts and handicrafts - the choice is varied and there are bargains galore!

Hackney’s lively markets play a valuable part in the lives of residents and they need you. They are a great way to see Hackney and meet people from across the borough. To its add support the boroughs five markets during the festive period the Council is offering free parking around Ridley Road, Hoxton and Broadway markets. Shared use and pay and display bays will be free on the following days on these streets:
Hoxton Market. Friday 18 to Friday 24 December 2010
• Falkirk Street
• Hemsworth Street
• Purcell Street
• Stanway Street

Ridley Road Market. Friday 18 to Friday 24 December 2010
• Colvestone Crescent
• Montague Road
• St Mark s Rise (between the junction of Ridley Road and Sandringham Road)

Broadway Market. Monday 20 - Friday 24 December 2010
• Ada Street
• Jackman Street
• Sheep Lane
• Welshpool Street

Residents permit bays and waiting and loading restrictions will still be enforced, and on all other dates normal restrictions will apply.

Hackney s five street markets are:

Ridley Road Market, London, E8. Over 165 stalls offering a range of quality goods at very competitive prices. Choose various goods and foods from Asia, Africa, Caribbean, United Kingdom and the Mediterranean including the latest ladies and men’s fashion and accessories, lingerie, footwear, toiletries, electrical, electronics, household goods and of course traditional and exotic fruit and vegetables. The usual trading days and times are: Monday to Thursday 6am to 6pm. Friday and Saturday 6am to 7pm.

Broadway Market, E8. Just off Lansdowne Drive, London Fields. A farmer’s style market with good quality fashion, foods and arts. It is at its busiest on Saturdays between 7.30am to 6.00pm. As 25 December falls on a Saturday, the market will open on Friday 24 December from 9am to 3pm.

Hoxton Market, N1. Located in Shoreditch, just off Old Street. Selling selling food, ladies and men’s fashion, footwear, household goods and toiletries. The usual trading days and times are: Monday to Saturday from 7.30am to 6pm. Please note, the busiest day is Saturday.

Kingsland Waste Market, E8 on the A10 between Middleton Road and Richmond Road. You can pick up tools, car and bike accessories, various small secondhand goods, fruit and vegetables. This is a Saturday only market from 7am to 3pm.

Well Street Market, E9. Just between Morning Lane and Kenton Road.You can pick up various items including toiletries, clothing and footwear. This market opens daily from 9am to 4pm. It is at its busiest on Saturdays.

Chatsworth Market, E5 is a trial market which will open for business on Sunday 12 December 2010 only from 11am to 3pm. This is the last date for this year, so take advantage and visit the market for various items including cooked food, vintage items, clothing, arts and crafts.

Harvey Bloom, The Ridley Road Market Traders Association Secretary said: ‘’Ridley Road is the place to go for all your Xmas shopping – we give variety, customer service and quality goods at unbeatable prices.’’

Councillor Feryal Demirci, Cabinet members for Neighbourhoods said: “We want people to support Hackney’s markets and go along and do their shopping during the run up to Christmas. Hackney Markets offer unique goods that you wouldn t find anywhere else. To make shopping easier, the Council is offering free parking at certain street around some of our markets. Why not pop along, you’ll be surprised at what you’ll find."

The Council is investing over £1 million in major improvement works to Ridley Road, one of the borough s best-loved markets. The works include a new footway layout, bigger pitches for traders, new lighting and power bollards and electricity connections and drainage.
