Cabinet agrees to consult on the proposal to return housing management to the Council
Following agreement by Cabinet to a joint proposal from Hackney Homes Board and Hackney Council, secure and introductory tenants and leaseholders will be consulted on plans to return the management of Hackney Homes properties to the Council in 2016
The consultation with tenants and leaseholders will take place from 8 August to 31 October 2014.
Hackney Homes was set up in 2006 by the Council in order to access external investment to fund the Decent Homes programme. Hackney Homes have been successful in the delivery of this objective and the Decent Homes programme, which will be completed by March 2015, has achieved the replacement of windows at more than 16,000 properties and led to more than 6,000 kitchens and bathrooms being upgraded.
The current management agreement between Hackney Homes and the Council expires on 31 March 2016, and there is a legal requirement to consult with secure and introductory tenants, before any changes are made to housing management arrangements. Leaseholders will also be included in this consultation.
I am pleased that Hackney Council and the Hackney Homes Board have agreed a joint proposal to be put to residents recommending the return of housing management to the Council. Hackney Homes was primarily set up to deliver the Decent Homes Programme which will be successfully completed this year, and with the contract between the two organisations coming to an end in April 2016, now is the right time to review this arrangement.
Hackney Homes and Hackney Council value the opinions of our residents. Now Cabinet have agreed our joint recommendation to consult on the return of housing management to Council, we will make every effort to ensure we engage as many tenants and leaseholders during this process. Hackney Council and Hackney Homes would like tenants and leaseholders views on the proposal to return housing management services to the Council in April 2016.
An Independent research company has been appointed to carry out the consultation. Tenant and leaseholders will receive a consultation pack through the post from 11 August.
