HACKNEY residents who have signed up to the country’s biggest ever council-led energy auction are finding out how much money they will save on their energy bills.

1000 Hackney residents signed up to the Big London Energy Switch with an average saving of £50 a year on gas and electricity bills. Everyone is being sent their new offer by email or post.

Residents who registered for the Big London Energy Switch should be receiving their offer very soon, we do know that many of our residents will be able to make savings if they choose to switch – nationally the average saving has been as much as £50 per year. If you are receiving an offer before you sign on the dotted line make sure you that it is a better deal.

The Big London Energy Switch is a scheme which aims to help people find better deals on gas and electricity by collectively negotiating with energy providers. It is then up to residents to choose whether or not to switch, as the deal may not be better than what they are currently receiving.

Residents who are eligible for the Warm Homes Discount of up to £135 for 2103 to 2104 or the Priority Services Register, which offers extra free services to pensioners, people who are registered disabled, have a hearing or visual impairment, or long term ill health are advised to check if these extra benefits are included with the energy provider making the offer.

It is estimated that more than 300,000 homes in the 21 boroughs involved in the scheme spend more than 10 per cent of their income on energy, which classifies them as living in ‘fuel poverty’.

Residents who have any questions about the offer they have received should call The Big London Energy Switch for free on 0800 0488112. Monday to Friday from 8:00am until 5:30pm.
