Antiques and collectables come to Hoxton Street Market

Antiques and collectable stalls are set to become a part of Hoxton Market, N1 from Friday 29 July.

The Antique Forum Group will have a number of stalls at the market on the last Friday of every month from 8am-3pm. To attract new traders, especially students and young entrepreneurs to this exciting new venture the Antique Forum Group will subsidise student rents by 50%. For the first month rent is only £7.50 on presentation of a student card.

Cllr Feryal Demirci, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods said: “Local people told the Council they’d like to see antiques at the market in a recent consultation. We have listened, and now we are delighted to welcome the Antiques and Collectables Market to Hoxton.”

Norman Simms from the Antique Forum Group commented: “It’s great that Hackney Council is supporting us to bring our quirky market to Hoxton. We’ve decided to subsidise rents for the first month to encourage students and young entrepreneurs to join us at Hoxon Market. We hope that we can help and support them on the career ladder.”

Located in Shoreditch, close to the City the market best known for foods, fashion, footwear and household goods is set to add Antiques and collectablesto its wares.

Earlier this year, 7 March to 1 May 2011 Hackney Council invited residents to ‘have your say’ on the future of Hoxton Street Market by taking part in a public consultation looking to improve the market and Hoxton Street. The views and comments have been analysed and the findings will be made available soon. Residents’ views on the proposals are helping shape plans for the market such as starting the new Antiques market. Plans for the new stalls are part of the Council’s plans to reinvigorate the market by bringing in new traders and expanding the range of goods on offer.

The Hoxton Street Market Improvements Consultation reveals a strong support for a proposal for vintage and antique stalls as a new feature to the market. Out of167 respondents, 82% strongly agreed and agreed with this proposal. Furthermore, analysis of open comments also shows that respondents were keen to see a variety of products added to Hoxton Street marking including antiques collectables and glamorous junk.

Hoxton Market is open 7.30 to 6pm Monday to Saturday and it is usually at its busiest on Saturdays. Public transport links are good with buses 67, 243, 394, 149 or the tube to Old Street.

The Antique Forum Group operate amongst others a major portion of the World famous Portobello Road market and are also instrumental in Antique and specialist markets such as; Spitalfields, Greenwich and have a track record that is second to none for these specialised and exciting themed markets.
